The locals suggest:
Paxoi touring with a rental boat
Leaving the port of Lakka, we always start from the west side, which is on our left, as later it can be windy and render it impossible to navigate on this side.
The first beach we come across is the “planos” beach, and continuing we will see the great Ypapanti cave. We check if there is a large ship inside the cave and if so, we wait until it comes out and then we can go inside and see it.
Erimitis Beach is the best location to enjoy the sunset in Paxos.
Tahai Blue Cave: if you want, you can drop anchor, but you should first check the depth (around 6-7 meters) and look if there are small rocks and only then drop it. Otherwise if the rocks are big it is very likely that the anchor will get stuck and you will struggle trying to get it off.
Ortholith: the greek meaning is “an upright rock in the sea”. The impressive vertical rock is embedded in the crystal waters, increasing the great beauty of the scenery, which is complemented by a large cave on the opposite shore. And this cave is also very big, impressive, with beautiful waters.
Another beach: Galazio, and to the left of it is the last cave “Kamara” or otherwise Trypitos.
Tripitos: known as “the Arch” is a natural arch of rock, created when part of a sea cave collapsed. With height of over 20 meters, its image is imposing, with crystal clear waters, so the images you will capture will be unique.
Continuing, and turning right, you will meet Antipaxos, where you will get to know two of the most beautiful beaches.
Vrika: this beach will confuse you and make you think that you are in some exotic tropical destination. Bright turquoise, transparent waters and two taverns for the essentials as well for sunbeds. Don’t forget and leave without visiting the second Voutumi beach
Voutumi: deep blue waters that you won’t want to leave and white pebbles that will make you feel like you’re touching a glimpse of paradise.
Attention: in Vrika you will have to check the boat often, as there is a possibility that the wind will blow and the anchor will go away and then the boat as well, while in Voutumi we can drop anchor outside the buoys and we are careful to keep a long distance from the beach, as it is strictly forbidden to get close.
Leaving the paradise of Antipaxos, we meet the islands of Kaltsonissi and Mogonissi
In Kaltsonisi there is the church of Agios Spyridon which dates back to 1680.
Immediately after is Mongonisi. Originally it was an island, hence the name, which is now joined by a road to serve the needs of the few houses and the well-established taverns of the island. The location here provides excellent protection from the winds except for the northeast .If you want to stop at a tavern, you will have to anchor offshore in 5-8m depths. The holding is moderate in sand and seaweed and it may take more than one effort to get the anchor attache to the bottom.
Gaios: capital of the Paxos, the port of Gaios is protected by two islands, the island of Panagia, on which there is a church and a monastery, opposite the new port of the Paxos, and the island of Agios Nikolaos, which is a short distance from Gaios .
Here, it is worth visiting the English governor’s office on the dock of the old port, the Church of the Ascension and the Museum of Paxos. The museum was founded in 1996 and is housed in a neoclassical building which was bequeathed in 1905 by Andreas Syngrou to Paxos.
Leaving Gaios and continuing our journey we will meet Loggos.
It is a small picturesque village, built among pines and olive trees, which is worth visiting for the church of Zoodochos Pigi, the church’s hagiographies are of considerable interest, whose its existence is mentioned since 1739, but also for the taverns that you will find in its harbor, which give a special color and are famous for their delicious traditional cuisine.
After Logos we return to the port of Lakka. There you will meet us again, were will be waiting, full of impatience to tell us what a wonderful time you had!!!!
